The Leap Year Question

Gummy Frogs

“If a person is born on February 29th, can they only celebrate their birthday every 4 years?” This was a question from my niece as we put together the Leap Year goodie bags they will be using in their pre K. class as a teaching aid. “Great question, I guess they could celebrate on February 28th or March 1st…” I don’t think she heard my response; she was too busy eating concentrating on our project.

The Project

We used the almost too adorable to eat gummy frogs from www.bulkcandystore.com. Since frogs leap or hop, I figured that they would be the perfect visual for a Leap day lesson or celebration.

Here is what I did; I placed 6 gummy frogs in a small plastic bag. Then, I tied the top of the bag with a piece of ribbon and attached a Hoppy Leap Year tag – super simple!

Happy Leap Day!

I have included a free printable of the tags below – to download – click on the image to open up the larger version, and then right click to save or print.

Let’s do this again in four years.
